Audi A-Pillar Wrap Inlay with Knifeless Tape

This tutorial demonstrates how to wrap an Audi pillar to keep the original white paint from showing. The video shows an installer installing a vinyl wrap inlay along the pillar seam to achieve full coverage and prevent the factory paint from peeking through.

Installing the Inlay

To start, place Knifeless tape directly along the bottom body line of the pillar. Next, fold the backing paper of a small scrap piece of vinyl in half and push the piece into the gap. Once the piece is positioned, peel away the backing paper and lock the vinyl onto the body line.

Apply a small amount of heat to soften the film, then use a flexible squeegee to tuck the material completely into the pillar recess. Pull the Knifeless tape all the way through to trim the edge cleanly. Finally, peel away the excess vinyl along with the remaining tape line to complete the inlay base.

Wrapping the Pillar

After setting the inlay, lay down and glass out the main pillar piece. Warm the film with heat and let it cool before making any cuts. Trim the material along the opposite edge, then use a squeegee to tuck the final edge smoothly over the seam. This technique conceals the underlying paint and leaves a clean seam.

Aura Vinyl produces vinyl wrap with a cast polymer hybrid construction and German-made adhesive to help installers tuck tight edges cleanly.

FAQ

How do you stop original white paint from showing on an A-pillar wrap?

Install a small vinyl inlay along the bottom body line using Knifeless tape before laying down the main piece. Tuck the main wrap over the seam after cutting along the opposite edge.

Why use Knifeless tape for an A-pillar inlay?

Knifeless tape creates a clean, precise cut inside the body line without using a blade near the vehicle surface.
