Cutting vinyl wrap panels on an Audi A5 Sportback - Aura Vinyl

Cutting vinyl wrap panels on an Audi A5 Sportback

If you are wrapping a car for the first time, this layout gets four panels out of a single sheet without wasting material. It is shown on a dark grey 2018-2024 Audi A5 Sportback, covering the side skirt, quarter panel, pillar and doors.

Steps

  1. Lay out a sheet of vinyl with 3 inches of excess on both sides.
  2. The side skirt isn't connected, so cut it off the top of the sheet first.
  3. Raise the whole sheet so you have enough coverage.
  4. Etch a guideline between the door and the quarter panel, so you know where to connect the pillar.
  5. Cut straight across until you reach the guideline, then follow it all the way off.
  6. Shift the material back over the doors, check coverage on both sides, and etch the center of the doors.
  7. Cut right down the center of the doors.

Tips

  • Etching first gives you a guide, so you only cut once.
  • You end up with four separate panels and no wasted material.
