Door wrap glassing technique on an Audi A4 - Aura Vinyl

Door wrap glassing technique on an Audi A4

This install tutorial demonstrates wrapping a door panel on a silver Audi A4 with vinyl wrap. The clip shows why you should never squeegee film immediately after laying it down, as doing so catches wrinkles. Instead, the installer demonstrates the glassing method to keep the panel flat before finishing.

Door Wrapping Steps

To avoid trapped wrinkles, follow the sequence shown in the video:

  1. Lift the material and glass it down, holding tension out and toward yourself on both sides.
  2. Tack down the center body line so horizontal wrinkles pop up toward the top, which makes squeegeeing above the body line much easier.
  3. Lift the material up to the body line, hold tension, and glass it down flat.
  4. Squeegee around the door handle and down the center to lock the film in evenly.
  5. Work air out toward the bottom edge.

Fixing Wrinkles and Film Details

If wrinkles develop while working the film down, lift the vinyl, apply heat to relax it, and glass it back into place before squeegeeing again. Aura Vinyl vinyl wrap utilizes a cast polymer hybrid film with German-made adhesive and a PET-backed finish to help with repositioning and minimize glue lines during installation.

FAQ

Why should you avoid squeegeeing wrap material immediately?

Squeegeeing film immediately after laying it out catches wrinkles. Picking up the material and glassing it down with tension creates a smooth surface before you lock it in.

How do you fix wrinkles during a door wrap install?

Pick the material up past the wrinkled area, apply heat to relax the film, and glass it back down. Once reset, squeegee the air out toward the bottom.

How do you secure vinyl around the door handle?

Squeegee around the handle to lock it in along with the center of the panel. This keeps the material even before pushing the remaining air out to the edges.
