This project features a green vinyl wrap with a PET-backed finish on a 1992 to 1999 BMW M3. The video demonstrates how to wrap the trunk lid using a two-piece method along the factory body line. Splitting the trunk into two sections makes the process much easier for first-time installers. The installation begins by placing knifeless tape directly across the trunk body line. Next, lay out the first piece of vinyl across the bottom section and glass it out on both sides to remove tension. Squeegee the bottom section thoroughly to work out all trapped air. Once the bottom is set, apply a second line of knifeless tape overlapping onto the first piece of vinyl. For the upper section, lay out the top sheet of vinyl. Trim away any excess film near the rear glass so it does not touch the window. Pull the backing paper completely through, lift the material, and glass it out on both sides until all wrinkles disappear. Squeegee from the center outward to split the panel into two workable sections and push out the remaining air. Finally, squeegee firmly over the knifeless tape line, pull the knifeless filament through the film, and remove the excess material for a clean seam. This wrap uses Aura Vinyl vinyl wrap, a cast polymer hybrid film engineered with German-made adhesive for easier repositioning.
FAQ
Why wrap a trunk lid in two pieces instead of one?
Wrapping a trunk in two pieces makes the job easier for beginners by reducing tension. Using the natural body line helps hide the seam.
How do you use knifeless tape on a trunk body line?
Lay the knifeless tape along the body line before placing the vinyl. Squeegee the film over the tape line, then pull the filament through to cut the excess cleanly.
