Grey wrap on a Subaru BRZ trunk - Aura Vinyl

Grey wrap on a Subaru BRZ trunk

This tutorial features a grey vinyl wrap installed on a 2013 to 2020 Subaru BRZ trunk lid.

The video demonstrates how to wrap the trunk in two pieces by using knifeless tape to create a clean seam. The installer works from the lower section toward the top to produce a durable finish that hides overlapping edges.

Two-Piece Trunk Technique

When wrapping a trunk in two pieces, always install the material from the bottom up. This keeps the seam facing downward so it remains hidden from view. A downward-facing seam also stops dirt and water from collecting inside the edge over time.

The shape of the panel dictates how you lay down the material. When a recess is wide and gradual, you can bridge the material into the area using your glove. Avoid bridging in small recesses where there is limited surface area for the vinyl to tack.

Finishing with Knifeless Tape

After setting the bottom piece, glass the top section of film over the panel. Squeegee out all remaining air from underneath the surface. Pull the knifeless tape line through the vinyl and remove the excess material to create a clean joint.

Aura Vinyl vinyl wrap features a cast polymer hybrid construction with German-made adhesive for easy repositioning and fewer glue lines during installation.

FAQ

Why should you wrap a trunk from the bottom up?

Wrapping from the bottom up keeps the seam facing downward so it remains hidden from normal viewing angles. This direction also prevents dirt and water from entering the edge of the seam.

When can you bridge vinyl wrap into a recess?

You can bridge the material using an install glove when the recess is wide and gradual. Do not bridge vinyl into small areas where there is not enough surface area for the adhesive to tack.

How is the top section finished on a two-piece trunk wrap?

Glass the top piece over the panel and squeegee out all the air. Then pull the knifeless tape and remove the excess film to complete the seam.
