OEM paint showing through the gap between the fender and the pillar is one of the easiest ways to spot a DIY wrap. This video shows how to hide it on a silver car with a small inlay, knifeless tape and a tuck tool.
Steps
- Lay out knifeless tape along the gap.
- Slide a piece of vinyl, backing paper still on, between the fender and the pillar.
- Hold down the front and remove the rest of the backing paper.
- Lock the material in under the knifeless tape with a tuck tool.
- Pull the knifeless tape and remove the excess.
- Wrap the full pillar: heat it, define your edge, then cut on the opposite edge.
Tips
- Roll the backing paper back slightly before you slide the piece in, so it comes off easier in the narrow gap.
- With the inlay in place, you never have to worry about OEM paint showing through.

FAQ
How do you stop OEM paint from showing through pillar seams?
Lay knifeless tape and tuck a small strip of vinyl into the seam between the fender and pillar before wrapping the main panel. Cut the inlay with knifeless tape, then wrap the pillar and trim along the opposite edge.
What is the benefit of rolling back the backing paper on an inlay strip?
Rolling back the backing paper slightly before sliding the vinyl between panels allows you to peel the paper off much easier once the strip is aligned.
