How to wrap a hood by yourself on an Audi A4

This video shows a vinyl wrap installation on the hood of a 1996 to 2001 Audi A4.

Wrapping a hood alone is straightforward when following the right order of steps. First, lay out the material across the hood. Cut out the windshield wiper area so the film does not tack down where you do not want it to stick.

Next, peel the backing paper on one side and tack the vinyl to the corner. Move to the other side, peel the backing paper until it meets in the middle, and pull the remaining backing paper completely through from the front.

Once the backing paper is out, pick the material up on one side and glass it flat across the panel. Move to the opposite side and glass that section down as well.

Squeegeeing and Edge Trimming

Starting in the center of the hood, squeegee out all the air from behind the vinyl toward the outside edges. If you run into wrinkles or tight spots at any point, pick the film up, apply heat, and glass it down again. After all air is removed from beneath the vinyl, cut and tuck the edges around the hood perimeter.

Aura Vinyl vinyl wrap features a cast polymer hybrid film with German-made adhesive designed for easy repositioning and fewer glue lines.

FAQ

Can you wrap a car hood by yourself?

Yes. You can install a hood wrap alone by tacking the corners, pulling the backing paper through from the front, and glassing each side before squeegeeing.

What should you do if the vinyl wrinkles during installation?

You can lift the material up, apply heat to reset it, and glass it down flat again.

How do you remove air bubbles from a hood wrap?

Start squeegeeing in the center of the hood and work outward toward the edges to push out all trapped air.
