How to wrap a seamless trunk with knifeless tape

This installation guide demonstrates how to achieve a seamless trunk wrap using knifeless tape along factory body lines. The video shows an installer wrapping a car trunk lid and creating a clean overlapping seam that follows the contours of the vehicle. To begin, lay down your first piece of knifeless tape directly across the body line. Remove the backing paper from the vinyl and tack down the material. Next, pick the material up on both sides and glass it out to eliminate tension and wrinkles. To work out all the air, start in the center and squeegee outward to the left and right. Once the air is completely removed, pull the knifeless tape all the way through to cut the vinyl, then remove the excess film. Lay down a second piece of knifeless tape over the edge to create an overlapping seam. Tack down your top piece of vinyl, pick up both sides, and glass it out once more. Establish your center line and squeegee out the air toward one side. Lock in the edge over the knifeless tape, pinch and tug the tape all the way through, and discard the excess vinyl. Aura Vinyl wrap features a PET backing for a smooth finish with reduced orange peel, paired with a cast polymer hybrid build and German adhesive for reliable repositioning.

FAQ

Where should knifeless tape be placed on a trunk lid?

Knifeless tape should be laid down directly along the hard and soft body lines of the trunk lid to hide the seam.

How do you squeegee out air during a trunk wrap?

Start in the center of the panel and work your squeegee outward toward the left or right after glassing out the film.

How is an overlapping seam created on a trunk?

Make the first cut with knifeless tape, lay a second piece of tape over that edge, tack down the top vinyl panel, and pull the tape through.
