This tutorial shows how to install vinyl wrap on car door handles at home so the material stays locked in place. The video demonstrates a two-piece technique designed to prevent the vinyl from lifting or failing over time.
Wrapping Steps
Start by laying the outside piece of film over the face of the handle. Next, heat up and glass out one side of the door handle. Work out all the air with your fingers or squeegee, then begin working the material into the center of the handle. Before working on the opposite side, cut the film down in the center and remove the excess piece. Repeat this same process on the other side of the handle. Wrapping one side at a time prevents the film from sticking to itself in the center recess.
After trimming the outside piece, lay down the inside piece of film. Work all the air out from the center outward, apply heat to the vinyl, and work it over the handle body lines. Cut the excess film right below the body lines. Following this process minimizes tension on the material and locks it securely onto the handle surface.
Aura Vinyl supplies cast polymer hybrid vinyl wrap with German-made adhesive and PET backing to help installers wrap complex vehicle components cleanly.
FAQ
Why should you wrap one side of a door handle at a time?
Wrapping one side at a time stops the material from sticking to itself in the center recess. It allows you to glass out each side individually and remove excess film cleanly.
Where should you cut vinyl on a car door handle?
Cut the outside piece down in the center of the handle before trimming away the excess. For the inside piece, cut the film right below the body lines after heating the material.
