Roof wrap install around a shark fin antenna

This installation covers the roof of a gold car using Aura Vinyl PET-backed vinyl wrap. The video demonstrates how to wrap a roof when you cannot remove the shark fin antenna.

Step-by-Step Installation

Start by making a tape template around the shark fin antenna, then carefully remove the template from the roof. Tape up the shark fin before moving forward. Lay out the material for the roof, locate where the shark fin sits, and place down the tape template.

Transfer the vinyl over to the glass and cut out the shape of the shark fin. Cut the opening a little bit smaller than the template rather than exact size. Remove the tape template and transfer the vinyl back to the roof with the backing paper still on to confirm alignment.

Once aligned, remove the backing paper from one side to the other. Glass out both sides to tighten the sheet.

Pro Tips for Tucking

Work air out from behind the vinyl around the shark fin before moving to the sides. Lock in the area around the fin, glass out the outside, and work air out starting from the center.

Trim the vinyl around the fin, leaving enough excess material to tuck so no gold OEM paint shows through. Lift the fin slightly and use a hard edge squeegee to tuck the vinyl beneath the base.

Aura Vinyl vinyl wrap uses a cast polymer hybrid build with German-made adhesive and a PET-backed finish.

FAQ

How do you wrap a roof without removing the shark fin?

Create a tape template around the shark fin antenna, cut the opening slightly smaller on the film, and position the vinyl over the roof. After glassing out the film, work the air out around the antenna base and tuck the excess material underneath using a hard edge squeegee.

What size hole should be cut for the antenna opening?

Do not cut the hole to the exact size of the antenna template. Cut the opening slightly smaller than the template to ensure there is enough material left to tuck.

How do you tuck vinyl wrap around a shark fin antenna?

Leave enough excess material around the fin so no original paint shows. Lift the antenna slightly and use a hard edge squeegee to tuck the wrap beneath the base.
