Wrap a Tesla Model 3 pillar without paint showing

This installation video covers wrapping a grey 2017-2023 Tesla Model 3 along the tight seam between the pillar and fender. Cutting only on the opposite edge leaves factory paint visible if a car has bright original paint like white, red, or yellow. The video demonstrates how to use an underlay piece and knifeless tape to prevent any OEM paint from showing through the panel gap.

Installation Steps

  1. Apply knifeless tape across the body line between the fender and the pillar.
  2. Slide a vinyl underlay piece between the fender and the pillar, then lock it onto the body line.
  3. Heat the vinyl and use a flexible squeegee to lay the material flat into the seam.
  4. Pull the knifeless tape line all the way through and remove the excess material.
  5. Lay the main pillar vinyl piece down, heat the material, let it cool, cut along the opposite edge, and tuck it deep into the gap.

Film Details

Aura Vinyl vinyl wrap uses a cast polymer hybrid film with German-made adhesive and a PET backing to help material lay flat and tuck cleanly into tight body lines.

FAQ

Why does OEM paint show between the pillar and fender when wrapping?

Cutting vinyl film only on the opposite edge does not leave enough material to fully tuck inside tight panel gaps. On cars with contrasting original paint, that exposed gap becomes clearly visible.

How do you hide paint gaps between the pillar and fender?

Place knifeless tape across the body line and feed a strip of vinyl between the panels as an underlay piece. After heating and squeegeeing the strip down, cut it with the tape before applying and tucking the main pillar wrap.
