This installation guide shows how to wrap a bumper using vinyl wrap over inlays. The video demonstrates how to cut the main overlay piece to lay directly over pre-installed bumper inlays.
Cutting and Laying Overlays
After completing all the inlays and glassing out the overlay piece, follow these steps to cut and set the vinyl:
- Heat the material and define where the inlays are located along the body lines.
- Cut about an eighth of an inch of material to overlap onto the inlays.
- Lay down the material immediately after cutting out a section.
- Repeat this process until all inlay sections are cut and set.
- Cut right past the inlay on bottom sections and remove the excess film.
Working with Complex Body Lines
Bumpers have complex hard and soft body lines that can create high tension. Breaking down the bumper into multiple pieces makes the main overlay much easier to manage. Cutting along the natural body lines leaves a clean finish without overstretching the film.
Aura Vinyl vinyl wrap uses a PET backing for a flat finish and German-made adhesive for easier repositioning during installation.
FAQ
How much overlap should you leave on vinyl wrap inlays?
Cut about an eighth of an inch of material to overlap onto the inlays. This ensures clean coverage over the seam.
Why should you break down complex bumpers into multiple pieces?
Breaking down a bumper using hard and soft body lines makes the overlay easier to install. It helps manage tension across complex shapes for a clean finish.
