This tutorial demonstrates how to install vinyl wrap on a side mirror of a white Tesla Model S. The video shows how to break the mirror into two sections along the factory body line to make the job easier.
Step-by-Step Mirror Wrap Process
Wrapping complex mirror curves in one piece can cause excess tension. Following the steps in the video helps you create a clean seam:
- Lay the first strip of knifeless tape directly over the mirror body line.
- Lay down the first piece of vinyl and squeegee out all trapped air.
- Add heat, pull the vinyl over the knifeless tape to lock it in, post-heat, and pull the tape through.
- Apply a second strip of knifeless tape right past the first seam.
- Heat the second sheet on the mirror tool, lay it across the mirror face, and glass out the rest.
Finishing the Seam
Once the second vinyl piece is positioned, take off the mirror tool. Warm up the remaining vinyl to glass out any loose areas around the edges. Pull the knifeless tape through to cut the final seam line, remove the excess vinyl, and trim the perimeter down to shape.
Aura Vinyl vinyl wrap features a cast polymer hybrid build with German-made adhesive and a PET backing for a smooth finish.
FAQ
Why should you wrap a side mirror in two pieces?
Splitting a mirror wrap into two pieces along a hard body line makes the installation process easier and helps manage tension across the curves.
Where is the knifeless tape placed on a Tesla Model S mirror?
The first piece of knifeless tape goes directly over the body line. The second piece is placed right past the first seam before applying the second sheet of vinyl.
