Most grey builds start with a solid shade. Nardo Grey, the solid mid-grey Audi made famous, comes in Gloss, Satin, Matte, Ultra Gloss and Hyper Gloss PPF. Chalk Grey is noticeably lighter and comes in the same five versions. Cement Grey is darker, with a cooler, slightly blue cast, and comes in Gloss, Satin, Matte and Ultra Gloss. Picking the shade first and the sheen second is the quickest way to narrow the list.
For a metallic look, Gloss Paint Metallic Silver, Bright Silver, Liquid Silver and Liquid Steel look like modern factory silvers, while Gloss Paint Metallic Liquid Gunmetal and Space Grey go darker. Satin Metallic Silver and Satin Metallic Gunsmoke Grey keep the flake but cut the reflections, and Matte Liquid Aluminum and Matte Liquid Silver give a soft, low-sheen metal finish. Ultra Gloss Silver Chrome is the most reflective option in the collection.
Grey is also a good base for color-shift and iridescent films. Gloss Grey Blue Shift, Gloss Grey Green Shift, Gloss Grey Gold Shift and Ultra Gloss Grey Purple Shift read as grey in the shade and show their second color as the light and viewing angle change. Gloss Iridescent Nardo Grey and Gloss Iridescent Silver add a multicolored sheen over the base grey.
You can see these on real cars in Aura’s gallery: Gloss Nardo Grey and Gloss Iridescent Nardo Grey on Tesla Model Ys, Gloss Chalk Grey on a Tesla Model X, Ultra Gloss Chalk Grey on a Porsche Taycan, Matte AMG Volcanic Grey and Matte Diamond Basalt Grey on Tesla Model 3s, Satin Nardo Grey on a Ram 1500, Satin Metallic Silver on a Tesla Model X and a Dodge Charger, Matte Liquid Aluminum on a Subaru BRZ and Gloss Iridescent Silver on a VW Bus.
Greys are hard to tell apart on a screen, because cameras and displays can push a grey warmer or cooler. A swatch book lets you compare shades side by side in daylight before you buy a roll.
Aura’s vinyl comes in 5-foot-wide rolls in 58 ft, 68 ft and 78 ft lengths. Grey Hyper PPF comes in 5 ft × 56 ft rolls, with 66 ft, 76 ft and 84 ft options.
