This tutorial features a blue vinyl wrap finish applied to a 1997 to 2002 Audi S4 door. The video demonstrates how to wrap a damaged door panel from start to finish to bring it back to clean condition.
Door Wrap Technique
The process starts by hanging the vinyl sheet against the door panel using magnets. If there is excess material along the top, trim it away before continuing. Peel the backing paper back from one side, tack the film to the panel, and pull the remaining backing paper out from underneath.
Before using a squeegee across the surface, glass out both sides of the door to remove large wrinkles. Lock the center line down with the squeegee first. Work outward with overlapping squeegee strokes to push air out evenly across the panel.
Edge Finishing
Once all the air is removed, apply heat to set and lock the edge. Trim away excess material along the opposite side of the panel. Heat the perimeter and tuck as much vinyl behind the door edge as possible before opening the door to complete the wrap.
Aura Vinyl vinyl wrap uses a cast polymer hybrid construction with German-made adhesive and PET backing to help installers position panels cleanly.
FAQ
How do you avoid trapped air when squeegeeing a door wrap?
Glass out both sides of the door first, then squeegee down the center to lock the panel. Squeegee outward using overlapping strokes so air escapes evenly.
What should you do before opening the door after wrapping?
Heat and tuck as much vinyl material as you can around the edges before popping the door open.
